The origin story started with the vision of two businessmen who wanted to introduce something new in Cebu’s food industry. The product they decided to introduce was a hamburger and shake fast food concept, which was a rather bold step considering that it was a relatively new concept to Cebuanos back in the early 80s.
This new venture resulted into the birth of Cebu’s first hamburger food chain, now known as ORANGE BRUTUS. Its very first store was opened in the historic Colon street, at the then newly opened FAIRMART department store. A clean, bright and charming restaurant, selling charbroiled burgers and fresh fruit shakes as their main menu.
After the positive response of the Cebuanos to hamburgers and fresh fruit shakes, hotdogs and spaghetti came next. Soon, ORANGE BRUTUS decided to focus on the Cebuano family as its target market. Hence, they developed more food product selections that suited the taste of all members of the family. What became its bestsellers are Sizzling Burger Steak and fried Chicken Brutus which customers usually paired with Mango Shake. Alongside the meals is the signature gravy people can’t get enough off.
After a few years in the business, they tried venturing into the bakeshop field selling bread and cakes. This move paved the way for another Orange Brutus bestseller aptly named: “Chocolate Monster”, a moist chocolate cake, which is a favorite dessert among Cebuanos up until today.
Apart from being committed to selling products that can delight families with every bite, ORANGE BRUTUS also sees to it that the food they serve are nutritious; hence they always make sure that it’s made from the freshest of ingredients.
Healthier oils are used for cooking fried items while burgers are charbroiled to ensure that meat products are low in cholesterol and are never pre-cooked. Raw materials go through a chemical-free process called ozonation, which eliminates all unwanted bacteria, harmful hormones, pesticides and enzymes. Only the freshest fruits go into the thirst-quenching fruit shakes as well.
For more than 40 years, ORANGE BRUTUS has a total of 21 outlets and still growing. Looking back at the company’s history, it can honestly say the journey has been a challenging, happy and fulfilling, adventure. Having successfully introduced Cebuanos to exciting and satisfying dining experiences, it continues to enjoy a large share of the market even with the proliferation of multinational food chains in the city, thus becoming a homegrown brand that is proudly Cebu’s First Favorite.
It also shares its success with all Cebuanos who have been their patrons from the very beginning. Having been in business since 1980, it has been hailed as among Cebu’s pride.
